Statewide Certification of Alarm Companies and Alarm Agents
House Bill 2748 was passed in 2012 and requires certification by the State Board of Technical Registration of all companies and persons who engage in selling, leasing, renting, maintaining, repairing or installing non-proprietor alarm systems or service and/or provide alarm monitoring services by October 1, 2013 (the Board will begin issuing certificates on May 1, 2013). This does not include installation or monitoring of fire alarm systems, motor vehicle alarms or any alarm system operated by a city or town.
Cities, towns and counties will no longer be allowed to require alarm business or alarm agent (technician) licensure after October 1, 2013.
